A Rose for Burial: Dark Mafia Romance (A Rose Full of Thorns Book 3)

ROSALIE

There is a black rose on a kitchen table.

A gold ring has been pushed down its stem.

I know what the flower means. I spent years leaving them beside the bodies of men I was paid to kill.

But this one was delivered to someone I love.

And the ring belongs to a dead man whose family has been keeping secrets from me.

Someone has turned the weapon I used for nineteen years against the only family I have ever wanted.

I have spent my life following orders, finding targets, and putting people in the ground.

Now I am asking questions that nobody in the Orsini family wants to answer.

About a death that should never have happened.

About the woman who welcomed me into her kitchen.

About the people who decided what I would become long before I was old enough to understand what they were doing.

Cesare is beside me, but the truth is threatening everything we have built together.

Our marriage. His family. The fragile life I have begun to believe I deserve.

And I am tired of being handed pieces of the story by people who think they know what I can bear.

This time, I want every name. Every payment. Every person who decided that my life was theirs to use.

Even if the answers leave me with nobody to trust.

CESARE

My brother is dead.

My wife is asking questions about his death.

And there is a black rose sitting on my grandmother's kitchen table with a ring I would recognise anywhere.

I have spent my adult life learning how to deal with men who betray this family. There are rules for it. Procedures. Consequences everyone understands before they decide to cross me.

There is no procedure for finding out that the people who raised you may have been responsible for the worst day of your life.

Rosalie wants answers.

I want them too.

But I am beginning to understand that some of the people who have loved us most have also made decisions we will spend the rest of our lives trying to comprehend.

My wife has already survived more than any woman should have to endure. She has fought her way out of an organisation that treated her like property, learned how to trust me despite everything I kept from her, and given me a marriage I had no right to expect.

I want to give her a life in which she can wake up beside me without reaching for a gun.

One where I can take my time undressing her without wondering which of us will have to leave before morning.

But there are still names to uncover, accounts to settle, and people who believe the Orsini family belongs to them.

I have spent years deciding who deserves to die. Now I have to decide what kind of man I intend to be when the killing is finally over.

And whether the woman I married will still want me beside her when she learns the whole truth.
